Test day and after

After You Pass Class 2B: Probation, Expressway Ride and Class 2A

After passing Class 2B in Singapore: the expressway familiarisation ride, getting your licence, 12-month probation rules and when you can take Class 2A.

Passing the practical test is not quite the end. You still need to complete the expressway ride, apply for your licence and then ride under probation rules for a year.

The Expressway Familiarisation Ride (EFR)

After you pass, you book an expressway ride at your centre. An instructor leads you onto an expressway so your first time at higher speeds, merging and changing lanes in fast traffic happens with guidance. Learners at CDC, for example, have ridden routes along the PIE, TPE and KPE.

Getting your licence

When the EFR is done, apply for your Class 2B Qualified Driving Licence (QDL) through the Traffic Police. The fee is S$50. Singapore licences are digital, so you can view yours in the Singpass app once it is issued.

Probation: your first 12 months

For one year after you get your licence:

  • Display a probation plate on your motorcycle. Riding without it is an offence, and a repeat offence can cost you your licence.
  • Keep under 13 demerit points. Reaching 13 or more during probation revokes your licence, and you have to go through the whole process again.

Speeding and beating red lights are among the quickest ways to collect points. A single serious offence can carry enough points on its own to put a probationary licence at risk.

Moving up to Class 2A and Class 2

Class Engine size Requirement
2B Up to 200 cc Age 18
2A Up to 400 cc Age 19, held 2B for 1 year
2 Above 400 cc Age 20, held 2A for 1 year

Each upgrade has its own lessons and test at a driving centre.
